YUMA, Ariz. – Yuma Elementary School District 1 Governing Board held a public meeting Monday morning to discuss their budget plans for the upcoming school year.
Duane Sheppard, Associate Superintendent for Dist. 1 said, “Our school board approved the 2016-2017 maintenance and operation budget for the following school year.”
Their maintenance budget stands at $47.5 million.
The board approved salary adjustments and coaching contracts, hiring of staff, funds from the building renewal grant and source vendors for the upcoming fiscal.
Sheppard adds, “Eighty percent of that 47.5 percent is used for employee salaries.”
There’s also around 10 million dollars that comes through federal grants. Making that a total of 57.5 million dollars.
“We have to take care of our building. Remember in Yuma, over half of our buildings are over 60 years old. So older building take a few more dollars to keep in good repair” said Sheppard.
