Yuma County’s unemployment rate rises to 26.6 percent in July

YUMA, Ariz. – Yuma County’s unemployment rate for July was 26.6 percent, up from June’s rate of 22.8 percent.

The July rate is the highest rate this year for Yuma County.

Meanwhile, Arizona’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July was 6.1 percent, up two-tenths of a percentage point from June.

State Department of Administration officials say Arizona’s jobless rate still is far below last year at this time when it was at 6.7 percent.

The national unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.3 percent in July.

Analysts say Arizona’s economy lost 7,200 non-farm jobs last month.

Across Arizona’s economy, eight of the 11 sectors gained jobs and three posted losses in July.

Analysts say Government shed 13,500 jobs in July with Local Education losing 12,900 of that total.

Leisure and Hospitality lost 2,200 jobs last month.

Analysts say Professional and Business Services added 3,700 jobs while Trade, Transportation and Utilities gained 1,600 jobs and Construction added 1,100 jobs in July.
