YUMA, Ariz.- Schools in Yuma County received more than $64,000 Monday morning to help assist teacher’s wishes. The Arizona Organizing Committee backed the program with more than $1 million to spend in Arizona statewide. Yuma was one of four areas in the state that had teachers’ wishes granted.
Teachers submitted their requests in September this year via www.DonorsChoose.org. The online charity is a way for anyone to make donations of any amount to schools in their area. If someone donates more than $50 the website says, the givers will receive a hand written thank you from the students of the classroom that was helped.
Principal Jamie Haines of Gowan Science Academy says what this grant money means to her school.
“What this means is that there is many materials and supplies and new technology that will be coming into our classrooms and enriching our curriculum. ”
Quinn Nemeth a student at Gowan Science Academy was extra excited that her school was given some funding. “It means to me more opportunities with technology and to learn with technology and I am really excited to be using the new chrome books that my class will be receiving.”-Quinn Nemeth.
