Yuma County Administrator Robert Pickels announces resignation

YUMA, Ariz. – Yuma County Administrator, Robert Pickels, has announced his resignation to pursue a new position as the next City Attorney for the City of Sedona, Ariz. Pickels submitted a formal letter of resignation to the Yuma County Board of Supervisors earlier this week which identified a final date of July 17, 2015.

According to a release posted on the Yuma County website, Pickels began his service to Yuma County in November of 2002 as a staff attorney in the Yuma County Attorney’s Office.  After serving as Chief Civil Deputy County Attorney, he was appointed as the interim County Administrator in May, 2007.  Pickels will be returning to his longstanding passion of practicing law and serving the public.

“It has been an absolute honor to have served the residents of Yuma County as County Administrator for the last eight years,” stated Pickels. “We have accomplished many great things as an organization during that time due to visionary leadership from Yuma County’s elected officials and a tremendously dedicated workforce.”  “Although I am very sad to be leaving the community that has allowed me to grow beyond my own expectations, I know that Yuma County is ready to prosper under new leadership.”

Board of Supervisors’ Chairman Russell McCloud said that the Board will immediately begin considering how to fill the vacancy both in the short and long term.  “The organization will sorely miss Robert’s leadership,” McCloud said.  “Relationships like the one that we have enjoyed are difficult to replace.  However, the Board will discuss it right away and come up with both a transition plan and a recruitment process for a suitable replacement.”
