YUMA, Ariz. – A retired Marine was in Yuma over the weekend after walking all the way from Charlotte, North Carolina. Gunnery Sergeant Roy Brady Jr. began his journey back in March in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the nation’s wounded veterans.
Roy hopes to raise 35,000 dollars before he ends his trek at Camp Pendleton, California later this month.
Proceeds raised from Roy’s “Walk for Warriors” campaign will go to Combat Wounded Veteran Challenge, a nonprofit in Tarpon Springs, Florida.
The veteran explained why he felt led to walk across the country.
“When they come home, they should have the best of care, bottom line, the best of care. I hope I set a trend… so hopefully somebody else can say, ‘Hey, let’s see what the situation is out there. How are our troops doing? How can we take care of them?'”
Roy said he plans to walk toward MCAS Yuma Monday morning.
