Two kids arrested after car pursuit

EL CENTRO, Calif. – Two minors were arrested after they lead officers on a car pursuit.

Officers say the incident started around 3:30 p.m. near 14th Street and Lenrey Avenue. The officer tried to pull the driver over for a violation, instead the driver sped away.

The driver lead police through several city streets at speeds of about 55 miles per hour and even got on Interstate 8. Eventually the driver came to a stop near Dogwood Road and Plaza Drive where police say he tried to discard a .22 caliber handgun. Police were able to find the gun on the dirt near the car and also found ammunition inside the car.

The driver and his female passenger were both arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall for a series of felony and misdemeanor charges.
