El CENTRO, Calif. – Imperial Valley College held a rock the vote event on campus earlier today.
The event was hosted by the Associated Student Government and encourages students to register and vote, our cameras were there as students registered on site.
“This is my second semester, but I was here in 2010. It is a good idea. It is an advantage for us. We don’t have to be looking for a place to do it. Just to fill the form it was just like probably two minutes, three minutes the most,” said Victor Rodriguez, current student at IVC.
Rock the vote is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1990. It’s mission, to engage and build the political power of young people.
“We’re trying to bring awareness to how important it is to be politically aware. And especially right now since we are transitioning from being in highschool to being an adult. It is really important to get people involved and know the importance of it, said Breanna Guzman, Associated Student Government Senate.
The deadline to register to vote for the general election in California is October 24th. Early voting in the state begins on October 10th.
If you did not register at the event today, students and staff can stop by the associated student government office for a form.
