YUMA, Ariz. – Twelve-hundred households lost power Thursday night according to Arizona Power and Light as a substation breaker tripped.
The outage affected a large area in the city including residents from 12th Street to 24th Street and Third Avenue to Interstate 8.
The Yuma Fire Department says the outage was caused by kids picking up a downed pole. The kids stood the pole up where it made contact with a power line triggering a short according to YFD’s Jeff Zahn.
Zahn stated no one was injured at the scene because of the short and the kids who caused the outage fled the area. Residents say they heard a boom and their power go out. The outage started just before 9 p.m. and power was restored by 10 p.m. to all residents.
