WINTERHAVEN, Calif. – This week the Imperial County Fire Department opened a new station in Winterhaven. The new facility will serve residents alongside the Winterhaven Fire Protection Distric, also Rural Metro provides ambulance services to the area. The fire chief at ICFD Tony Rouhotas says the decision to begin operating a station in Winterhaven was partly made by the County Board of Supervisors. The current building being used, which has four personnel on staff, is only temporary as ICFD says they plan on constructing a facility that will hold the Sheriff’s Office as well as the County Fire Department. That project is in preliminary stages so a timeline for its completion is not yet known as well as how much it would cost.
Charly McMurdy, the public information officer for Rural Metro out of Yuma County, says that they are happy to see the new station in the area. She says that Rural Metro will continue to provide ambulance services to the area.
