YUMA, Ariz – National Signing Day put the elite football players in the Desert Southwest in the spotlight, as they signed themselves to their collegiate playing destinations. Yuma Catholic had two offensive weapons that put their pens to work on Wednesday. Perennial tight end Matt Pistone officially made known that he’s going to take his talents to Boise State. This after he had de-committed from Oregon State a few months back because of their coaching change. Shamrocks wide receiver Donovan Rooks signed his letter of intent to play for the Montana Grizzlies. A big part of his decision stemmed from the program’s storied success in the Big Sky Conference and Division 1-AA playoffs. Meanwhile, Cibola’s Abe Thompson is heading to Flagstaff where he’ll join the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks this fall in the fullback position. Thompson hopes he can win the starting job as a freshman. In the Imperial Valley, Brawley High School’s Nico Aguirre is signing his letter of intent with Idaho State; while his teammate Andrew Ortiz will be taking his talents to Western New Mexico State University.
