EL CENTRO, Calif. – The El Centro man convicted of first degree murder following the killing of his father has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
The sentence for 32-year-old Neil Green was handed down Friday at the Imperial County Superior Court.
During the hearing, Neil’s mother was prevented from giving a victim’s impact statement when she tried to defend her son.
Neil’s mother and daughter talked to us following the sentencing, but the defense declined to comments.
Green was found guilty in August of murdering his 63-year-old father at their home El Centro in 2012 after an alleged argument.
Neil was 29-years-old at the time he attacked his 62-year-old father.
He and a sister had lived with their father, Melvin Green, since their parents divorced when they were still children. The sister had moved away but stayed in touch with her father. Neil Green says his father was drunk and attacked him first and that he hit his father in self-defense.
