YUMA, Ariz. – The Yuma Catholic Shamrocks boys basketball team has three games left to be played this week and a chance to pad it’s resume to better position itself for the upcoming sectional competition. Meanwhile, the Kofa Kings are fighting just to get a spot in sectionals among Gila Valley teams in Division 2.
When both of these teams squared off on Monday night, most of the game’s drama unfolded early. Both contested each shot to start and both were fighting one another for every rebound. Johnny Alvarado’s steal that turned into an easy bucket was Kofa’s final positive play of the first quarter, before the Shamrocks steadily built a 17 to 6 lead going into the second.
The Rocks would build from there the rest of the way, taking down Kofa by the score of 70 to 49. Yuma Catholic improves it’s overall record to 18 and 3. Both teams will finish thier regular seasons with two more games through this Friday.
