Inmate captured after escaping Imperial County Jail

IMPERIAL COUNTY,  Calif. – An inmate who escaped from the Imperial County Jails captured Tuesday

The report was released Tuesday afternoon, after officers at the Herbert Hughes Correctional Center noticed Rafael Gomez was missing during a head count.

Officers say they contacted patrol units in the area to look for the 26-year-old in agriculture fields surrounding the jail, however, he wasn’t found.

Gomez was booked into the facility on October 20th for fleeing a California Highway Patrol officer and resisting arrest among other charges.

This is the second inmate who has escaped Imperial County Jail this year. Inmate, Gilbert Acuna was also able to escape the jail in June.
