IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. – A man held a driver and her family at knife point and demanded them to drive him to San Diego.
According to Imperial County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) deputies the incident started at the Jack In The Box on Imperial Avenue in Calexico before 4:30 p.m.
“The suspect approached the vehicle that was occupied, got inside the vehicle. He pulled out a [Shobi-Zue] knife from his pocket, and he told the occupants of the vehicle he needed to get to San Diego, and he threatened them with violence,” ICSO Sgt. Jorge Cabanillas said.
The driver stopped at the AM/PM on Yourman Road in Heber where she told the store clerk about the situation. The store clerk called 911 and authorities sent a description of the vehicle to all law enforcement agencies.
The driver was eventually pulled over by California Highway Patrol, U.S. Border Patrol and ICSO at the San Diego – Imperial County line where officers were able to take the suspect into custody.
Brian Daniel Alatorre, 20, from San Diego was arrested and booked into Imperial County Jail. He was charged with kidnapping, carjacking, unlawful imprisonment, threat of bodily injury, possession of a shobi-zue knife and brandishing a knife.
