Child killed, several others hurt in San Diego house fire

SAN DIEGO (AP) – San Diego authorities say a child was killed and two other children were seriously injured when fire ripped through a home in the Mount Hope neighborhood.

KFMB-TV reports crews working to extinguish the blaze early Monday found the 10-year-old boy dead in a back bedroom. Two other children in the bedroom were rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Lee Swanson says an adult in the home suffered burns and was also hospitalized.

Swanson says two firefighters had minor injuries.

Investigators estimated the fire caused about $300,000 in damage to the house and another $100,000 in damage to its contents.

The cause is under investigation.
