Amberly’s Place ‘Week in Paradise’ proceeds benefit victims of domestic violence

It’s that time of year again, Amberly’s Place ‘Week in Paradise’ is approaching.

Amberly’s Place Executive Director Diane Umphress said, “The best part of this whole thing is your ten dollars stays in Yuma, it helps with diapers emergency needs money, every single penny stays in Yuma.”

There are a lot of great prizes from a guys’ deep sea excursion, girls weekend get away, take me out to a ball game and grand prize seven days, six nights in Oahu, HI.

Umphress says the money goes to a fully paid trip including hotel, airfare, travel money and a hair style before your trip.

The volume of calls Amberly’s Place receives is increasing, in the last year they have seen an 11%  increase.

Umphress says people living in Yuma County are feeling more comfortable reporting abuse.

Umphress said, “It means so much to the victims when they look at you and ask how can you do this, how can you help them. the community wants to see them go from a victim to a survivor and this is how we do it.”

Some of the other prizes are Flavor of Yuma: meal for two at eight of Yuma’s local restaurants, Adventure date: date for 2 with a 1 night stay at the Radisson and a hot air balloon ride, as well as a Vegas Getaway.

You can purchase tickets at Amberly’s place for only $10. The drawing is June 25th at Harkins Theater.
